Editorial policy

How we write what you read on SeniorHome.ca, how we're funded, and how to tell us when something is wrong.

Our standard

Choosing senior care is a high-stakes decision, so we hold our content to one rule: every fact has to come from our directory data or from a public source we can point to. We don't publish invented statistics, quotes, reviews, awards or waitlist times, and we say plainly when a figure is an estimate.

How guides and articles are written

City and province guides and our blog articles are written with AI assistance (Anthropic's Claude) by the SeniorHome.ca team. Each piece starts from a data packet drawn from our directory: the communities in the area, their care types, Google ratings and estimated costs. Provincial facts (how long-term care placement works, subsidies, health authorities) come from government and health-authority sources, which are listed in the article.

The writing instructions require every number to come from the data packet or a cited source, and prices to be described as estimates unless the community published them. Before publishing, every internal link is checked against our site, and in blog articles every community named is checked against our directory.

Illustrative images on articles may be AI-generated; they never depict a real residence or a real person. Photos on listings are always real (see our methodology).

How we make money

SeniorHome.ca is free for families. We're paid by senior living communities, in two ways:

  • Referrals. When a family asks to be connected with a community, that community may pay us for the referral. Families are never charged.
  • Featured placement. A community can pay to be featured. Featured listings are labelled “Featured” and appear first in lists.

Payment never changes a listing's ratings, reviews, licensing records, its place in a top-rated list, or what our guides and articles say about it. Listing a community is free, and communities can claim and update their listing at no cost.

Our assistants

The “Ask Sarah” chat and our phone line are answered first by Sarah, an AI assistant. Sarah answers from our directory and can send you information, connect you with a community, or take a request for someone to call you back.

Independence

We don't accept payment for articles, and communities don't review or approve what we write about them. Verified and Owner-managed labels describe a community's relationship with us (claimed listing, badge), not quality.

Corrections

If you find an error, email info@seniorhome.ca or use our contact page, with the page and what's wrong. We check every report and correct verified errors promptly. Communities can fix their own listing details by claiming their listing.
