SeniorHome.ca Now Lists Over 6,500 Communities Across Canada
Finding the right senior care community just got easier. We have expanded our database by nearly 50%, adding 2,173 new communities from verified government health directories across Ontario and Alberta.
What Changed
We built automated scrapers that pull facility data directly from three official government sources:
- Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Registry — 688 licensed nursing homes with phone, fax, address, and website data from the Ministry of Health public reporting system
- Ontario Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority (RHRA) — 742 licensed retirement residences with full contact details, licence status, and care services offered
- Alberta Open Data — 363 continuing care facilities from the province official compliance reporting dataset, including supportive living and long-term care accommodations
Better Contact Information
One of the biggest gaps in senior care directories is missing fax numbers. Many families and healthcare providers still rely on fax to send referrals, medical records, and intake forms. Before this update, only 132 of our communities had fax numbers on file — just 3%.
Now, 787 communities have verified fax numbers — a 6x increase. We also backfilled phone numbers, email addresses, and websites for hundreds of existing listings that were missing this information.
By the Numbers
- 6,570 total active communities (up from 4,397)
- 787 communities with fax numbers (up from 132)
- 2,173 new communities added from government sources
- 3 official government directories integrated
How It Works
Each scraped facility is fuzzy-matched against our existing database by name and city. When we find a match, we fill in any missing contact details without overwriting what is already there. When there is no match, we create a new community listing with the correct care type automatically assigned.
All new communities from government directories are marked as active immediately, since they come from verified, regulated sources — these are licensed facilities that families can trust.
What is Next
We are continuing to expand our coverage province by province. British Columbia, Quebec, and other provinces have their own health authority directories that we plan to integrate in the coming weeks. Our goal is to be the most complete and accurate directory of senior care communities in Canada.
